TBE Explorers: Trip to Yivo Institute for Jewish Research

Monday, August 19, 2024
11:30 am - 4:30 pm

Our day begins with a presentation by the YIVO Learning and Media Center Educator, about the lives of interwar Jewish Youth in Poland through a look at autobiographies written and collected by YIVO 90 years ago featuring curated reproductions of YIVO archival materials.

We will view two major exhibits:

“Runaway Husbands, Desperate Families: The Story of the National Desertion Bureau,” which traces the history of the National Desertion Bureau and includes never before seen records and documents.

“The Instant Art of Morris Katz,” which showcases paintings of the world’s fastest and most prolific artist, Morris Katz. Katz, who survived the Holocaust as a child, lived as a performing artist, painting for audiences in the Catskills while joking and explaining his craft.

These will also be led by the YIVO Educator.

We will break for lunch, and we will be able to bring it back into the meeting room.

We will take the LIRR together (buy your own ticket).
