Fifty-six years after his civil rights speech at Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s important words continue to resonate with our synagogue, our community and our country.

We are so proud to welcome our special guest speaker for our annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Erev Shabbat service, Letitia James, New York State Attorney General.

Letitia “Tish” James, the 67th attorney general for the State of New York, will keynote Temple Beth-El of Great Neck’s extraordinary Martin Luther King Jr. Shabbat service on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 7 p.m. The annual worship service will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic civil rights speech presented at Temple Beth-El 56 years ago. As the reverend’s important words continue to resonate with the synagogue, the community and the country, Temple Beth-El is honored to once again welcome the entire community to memorialize Dr. King and continue sharing his message—which is as relevant today.

James, an experienced attorney and public servant with impressive accomplishments, is the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York and the first woman to be elected attorney general. When she was nominated public advocate for the City of New York in 2013, she became the first woman of color to hold citywide office. Under her direction, her office has handled more than 32,000 constituent complaints and has passed more legislation than all the previous public advocates combined.

Led by Rabbi Brian Stoller and Cantor Adam Davis, the service will include special music and choral highlights, as well as special readings selected for this meaningful event. The entire community is invited to attend our Erev Shabbat Service.

While a registration is never needed to attend a Shabbat worship service, for such a special occassion, we invite you to let us know you’ll be here so we can be plan for setup, security and our reception. Of course, those who do not register are welcome too. We want you to join us!
