Join us for an exciting fall semester of Tuesday Night Symposium where we will discuss Religion and State in Modern Jewish History over 10 sessions.

*This session runs from 10/13 through 12/22; there is no class on 11/24*

Instructor: Rabbi Brian Stoller 

The separation of church and state, a core principle of the United States since its founding, hangs in the balance. As some state and federal leaders move to inject a particular form of Protestant Christianity into our public spaces, Jewish history can shed light on the challenges and opportunities we might face as the line blurs between religion and state. This course will survey key historical developments in Jewish history, including Moses Mendelssohn’s Enlightenment vision, the rise of European nationalism, the United States’ experiment in pluralistic democracy, religion and state in modern Israel, and the troubling resurgence of Christian nationalism in America today.

Fee: $50 for members and $100 for not-yet members

Late registration (after September 29) fees: $100 for all
