TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY TECHNOLOGY
ARRIVES AT TEMPLE BETH-EL

New computers now grace the Temple offices thanks to the guidance and generosity of Shari and David Isacowitz. Their gift has enabled the Temple to purchase new machines, enter a Windows environment, upgrade the computer network, and allow for Internet access. This computer upgrade has significantly improved administrative efficiency and resulted in the production of higher quality Temple documents. Shari and David's gift is an example of their commitment to the health of operations at the Temple. Many thanks to the Isacowitz's for making such an important improvement possible.

CHANGES IN THE READING OF NAMES FOR KADDISH

We, along with other congregations like us that were established seventy years ago and longer, have discussed how to appropriately recognize the many names that are on the Kaddish list each week. Many congregations have changed long-standing practices with regard to reading the list and now we are making a similar change. As a result, the Board of Trustees has approved a recommendation of the Ritual Committee which amends the way by which names on the Kaddish list are read at Shabbat eve Services. Beginning after the High Holy Days, a printed list of all Yahrzeits being observed during that week, including the names of people who have passed away during the past month and their relationships to Temple members, will be included in the Friday evening calendar. However, if you are observing the Yahrzeit of a loved one and would like that name read at Shabbat eve Services, you must communicate that to the Temple. The only names that will be read without request will be those who have passed away during the past month and their relationships to Temple members. These names will be read at Shabbat eve Services for the 30 day Shloshim period.

If you would like a name read for Yahrzeit, there are several ways that you can convey your request to the Temple:

1. You can call, or visit, the Temple Office (487-0900).  They will take the name and date of the service at which the name is to be read and record it on the list for that date.

2. You can notify an usher at Services on the evening on which you want the name read and the usher will inform the clergy.

3. You can notify the Temple Office of your request by mail (but we would prefer a telephone call).

Notification of this change will be included in each Yahrzeit notice that we send and will also appear in the Friday evening calendar that is distributed at Services. By including this notice in the Bulletin as well, we hope to notify all those who observe Yahrzeit of this change.
